Anjan apologizes to Nepali fans after a draw against Laos
Prateek BhattaKathmandu, 13th October. Nepali National Football Team player Anjan Bista says he never plays for his personal record and always believes in the team game. Speaking at the post-match conference after a 1-1 draw in FIFA World Cup Qualifiers match with Laos on Thursday, he even apologized for not winning the match.
‘A lot of people congratulated me for equaling the record of 13 goals, but I never played for the record’, he said, ‘I believe in team game, we play for a win and there are goals if not by me then by someone else, no matter what, I think I still have a lot to play and personal records don’t value much for me.’
Anjan’s goal saved Nepal from a defeat in the home crowd at Dashrath Stadium against Laos as he scored an equalizer via header in the 49th minute after being 1 goal down in the first half of the match. His goal was 13th for the national team which equals the tally of the highest number of goals by Nepal International, of two former Nepalese players, Hari Khadka and Nirajan Rayamajhi.
He further added, ‘We didn’t play for a draw today, we wanted to win in front of the home crowd, but we couldn’t win. I sincerely apologize for that.”
Likewise, Nepal’s coach Vincenzo Alberto Annese admitted that there was a poor performance in the midfield and said that there are many aspects that need to be improved. He also said that the referee made many poor decisions and that made him sad.
Nepal will play 2nd Leg of this qualification match on upoming 17th of October, this time being on Laos home ground.
